There’s something special about a freshly baked batch of biscuits – the golden brown exterior, the soft and flaky interior, and that irresistible aroma that fills the kitchen. Whether they are buttermilk biscuits, garlic cheddar biscuits, or simple 10-minute drop biscuits, I love them all!
If you’re like me, you’re always finding yourself with leftover biscuits and you might need to know how to reheat biscuits without ending up with rubbery biscuits.
There are a few tricks to making those leftover biscuits perfectly and in this guide, we’ll explore several methods to make sure you end up with warm, flaky biscuits, just as delicious as when they first came out of the oven.
Some tricks to reheating biscuits are to not overdo the reheating time, keep them covered so they warm on the inside before they start browning more on the outside, or my personal favorite, slice them in half and lay them sliced side up so they can heat through faster for quick, delicious biscuits. There are several different ways you can approach reheating biscuits, let’s get into the options.
The Oven Method
Reheating biscuits in a traditional oven is probably the closest you can get to the original straight-out-of-the-oven biscuits so they get the thorough heat of an oven.
It will take the longest, but it’s still not too long and it’s an easy way to keep the original texture of the biscuits intact so they taste like fresh biscuits. Follow these simple steps for the best results:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Low heat is important so the biscuits don’t get overheated and rubbery.
- Place a large batch of biscuits on a baking sheet in a single layer, ensuring they are not crowded.
- Cover the biscuits with aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. You could also skip the baking tray and just wrap the biscuits entirely in foil.
- Heat for 8-10 minutes or until warmed through.
- For a crispy exterior, remove the foil from the wrapped biscuits for the last couple of minutes.
The Microwave Oven Method
The microwave method is a quick and convenient option for reheating biscuits, but it requires a bit of finesse to avoid sogginess or a rubbery texture.
Depending on the type of biscuit you’re reheating, the microwave is the best method if you’re looking for the quickest way that will give you moist and fluffy results if you do it the right way.
This is also a good choice if you’re just reheating an individual biscuit. Here’s how to do it right:
- Wrap the biscuits in a damp paper towel to add moisture.
- Place them on a microwave-safe plate.
- Heat on medium heat for 20-30 seconds at a time, checking after each interval.
- Be cautious not to overheat, as this can make the biscuits chewy. That’s why the short heating intervals are important. Too much heat in the microwave is one of the most common mistakes for reheating any type of biscuit.
The Toaster Oven Method
A toaster oven can be a great method to use when it comes to reheating biscuits, providing a balance of crispiness and softness. Here’s how to do it:
- Preheat the toaster oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place a small batch of biscuits directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. You can use tin foil for this method like the conventional oven as well or leave them open and uncovered. I like to slice my biscuits in half and lay them sliced side up so the cooking time is less and they’re sure to get warmed all the way through before cooking too much on the outside.
- Toast for 5-7 minutes, checking periodically for the desired warmth and crispiness.
The Air Fryer Method
The air fryer is known for its ability to achieve a crispy exterior, making it a fantastic choice for reheating biscuits if you want to have that slight crunch. Follow these steps for air fryer biscuits if you’re reheating a small number of biscuits:
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the biscuits in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not crowded. Again, I would suggest slicing them in half and maybe even putting some butter on the sliced side of each biscuit so you have nice melted butter on each of your reheated biscuits straight out of the air fryer.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes, checking for the desired level of crispiness.
