Homestyle Chicken and Noodles Recipe
I don’t know about you but I’m about tired of winter. Temperatures in the teens do not a make this Southern girl very happy and this DC weather shows no signs of letting up anytime soon! Just about the only thing I do like about winter is holing up at home with some tasty comfort food-which is just what I did last week when we got yet another snow (but luckily not as bad as the Snowpocalyse they predicted!) This Homestyle Chicken and Noodles recipe is one of my favorite comfort foods-and to tell the truth, I didn’t even share it with my family-I hid it away and savored it all by myself over the course of a couple of days! And don’t mistake this for Chicken Noodle soup-there’s no soup here-just thick, hearty goodness!
Ingredients:
2 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
1 bag Reames frozen egg noodles
6 cups chicken broth
3/4 cup thinly sliced carrot
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp thyme
1 bay leaf
4 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp milk
Directions:
Combine chicken, broth, carrot, and spices in a large pot. Stir well and bring to a slow boil. Add noodles and cook for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to medium low. In a small bowl combine butter, flour and milk until smooth. Add flour mixture to pot and stir well. Continue to heat additional 5 minutes to thicken. Serve immediately.

What is your favorite comfort food? (For another of my favorite comfort foods check out my Classic Homestyle Lasagna Recipe!)
This turned out pretty easy and quite delicious! I added a few more spices to it at the end for a bit more flavor but plan to make this my go-to for the rest of my week, thanks for the recipe! Do you think replacing the flour/butter/milk mixture with corn starch would work? I’m a novice cook so always a bit hesitant to experiment 🙂

Hi Lincoln, thanks for taking the time to comment and rate the recipe, it’s one of my favorite comfort foods! I do think the roux with butter/flour/milk adds to the taste but cornstarch would thicken it as well. I’ll add it to my (lengthy) list of things to test but if you try it first please stop back by to let me know how it worked!
Finally tried it! It might have been a little slower to thicken, but it eventually did and still tasted great!
Glad you liked it Lincoln, that’s one of my favorite comfort food recipes!
Oh shoot I feel like I should clarify – I re-tried the recipe using corn starch instead of the slurry made with the milk etc. I used about 4.5 tbsp cornstarch, and it worked great. This is now the third time I’ve made this recipe and I love it.
loved it!

Hi,
I was looking for this recipe all the day , actually this weekend was a pretty much free for me so I wanted to spend my time on cooking , yeah I tryed it and it worked great , By the way thanks for this recipe
Thanks for the recipe! Chicken noodle soup is the best comfort food! I might add some onion to it for extra flavor.
Reames noodles are not available where I live. Can I use dry or fresh noodles? Looks delicious!
You can substitute the noodles Terilynn, I’d just follow the cooking instructions on the package as far as how long to cook them in the broth.
That looks astoundingly comforting and good. I want it. TONIGHT!
Talk about comfort food – this looks incredible!
