Blueberry Mojito Recipe
How to make a simple, fresh blueberry mojito with fresh blueberries, light rum, mint, and lime juice. This refreshing cocktail is the perfect summer drink!
Can you believe it’s almost summer?? It certainly doesn’t feel like it for me here in the UK-we’re still hovering in the mid-50s most days-but next week I’ll be traveling back to the US to do a little house hunting and walking slam into hot Georgia sunshine! In honor of summer and sunshine, I wanted to share a Blueberry Mojito Recipe with you-it’s a fun, fruity twist on the classic Cuban cocktail-and one of my favorites!
Why I love this cocktail recipe
These cocktails are so easy to make! Simply muddle together mint, sugar, and blueberries in a cocktail shaker. Add lime juice and stir or shake until sugar is dissolved. Add the seltzer and either pour or strain over ice to serve. I like to serve this blueberry mojito garnished with lime slices and mint.
Ingredients
- fresh blueberries
- fresh mint leaves
- dark brown sugar
- lime juice
- light rum
- seltzer water
Step by step
- Muddle together mint, sugar and blueberries in a shaker.
- Add lime juice and stir or shake until sugar is dissolved.
- Add seltzer and either pour or strain over ice to serve.
- Garnish with lime slices and mint if desired.
How to Make Blueberry Mojitos in a Pitcher
It is easy to make these blueberry mojitos in a pitcher when entertaining a crowd. To make mojitos in large batches, muddle the blueberries, mint, lime juice, and sugar in the pitcher. Stir in the rum.
If serving right away add ice and top off the pitcher with club soda. If you are prepping the pitcher of blueberry mojitos in advance, refrigerate the muddled mixture until ready to serve. Then add the ice and club soda until you are ready to serve so it doesn’t lose its carbonation.
FAQs
A mojito is a Cuban cocktail consisting of lime, mint, sweetener, rum, and sometimes carbonation. It traces its roots all the way back to the 1500s as a drink called El Draque. El Draque was rum mixed with lime, sugar, and mint as a way to mask the harsh taste of crude alcohol production.
A light white rum is the traditional choice for mojitos. You do not need to buy the top shelf rum, a mid-range quality rum will work just fine.
Mojitos should be served in a tall glass. Collins, pint, your choice!
I highly recommend you muddle this cocktail instead of using substitutions. Muddling releases not only the juice of the lime but also the essential oils in the lime peel (which holds 95% of the flavor of citrus is stored) and breaks down the cell walls of the mint leaves.
